Tooth Infections Are Painful

It is almost impossible to ignore an abscessed tooth because it can be incredibly painful. Left untreated, it can cause swelling and other complications. A root canal removes infected tissue, cleans out the space, and fills it with a substance to prevent another infection.

Steps of a Root Canal

Evaluation

A Maison Dental professional will examine your teeth, do an X-ray, and look at any underlying issues.

Root Canal Scheduled

The patient is given antibiotics and a root canal is scheduled. They may do an impression for a crown now or may wait until the root canal appointment.

Procedure

The area is numbed and the dentist or endodontist sets the infected area apart from the rest of the mouth. They test the area to make sure the tooth can be saved and drill into the tooth to get to the root. They remove the infected pulp.

Completing the Root Canal

The dentist then smooths out the root area and fills it with a material to prevent more infection. The tooth is sealed. They put in a filling and a temporary crown to protect the tooth until the final customized crown is ready.

Placing the Crown

You will return to the dental office when the customized crown is ready. The temporary crown is removed and the restoration is completed with the installation of a permanent crown.
