When to Consider Veneers

Making Your Smile Look It's Best

Veneers may be an option for individuals with teeth that are chipped, discoloured, worn down, or uneven. They are thin coverings placed on the front surface of teeth to address cosmetic concerns such as gaps or irregular shapes. In some cases, veneers may also help improve function for those with weakened tooth structure. A dental assessment is necessary to determine if veneers are the right solution for your needs.

Veneer Basics

Veneers are custom-made to fit the shape, size, and colour of your natural teeth. They are applied only to the front surface of the teeth to improve appearance.

Veneers are bonded to the tooth surface using dental adhesive. In most cases, a small amount of enamel is gently prepared to help the veneer adhere securely. There are also minimal-prep or no-prep veneer options available in select cases.

With proper care, veneers can be a long-lasting option for improving the look of your smile.

Porcelain Veneers FAQs

What are veneers?
Veneers are thin shells that are bonded to the front of teeth to cover imperfections.
What cosmetic issues can veneers correct?
Veneers don’t correct issues but camouflage them. They are used to cover stained teeth, worn-down teeth, misshapen teeth, chips, cracks, or tooth gaps.
How much natural tooth reduction is required before placing veneers?
It is minimal and sometimes none but it depends on the condition of the tooth.
Is the process of getting veneers painful?
No, we often don’t require anesthesia. When we use it, you don’t feel any pain.
Will I know what my new smile will look like before finishing?
We have a “trial smile” or digital/wax mock-up so you can see what your new smile may look like. You have a say in the final design.
Can I still have my teeth whitened after getting veneers?
No, veneer colour can’t be changed. You pick your shade of veneers when we plan your procedure and that will be the final shade.
How long do veneers last?
Porcelain veneers can last a lifetime with some minimal discolouration. Most porcelain veneers last up to 12 years. Composite veneers don’t last as long and may need to be replaced around 5 years later.
How do I care for veneers once they’re placed?
Treat them like your natural teeth. Keep brushing and flossing daily and go to your dentist for regular check-ups.
